Melissa Staples

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.” JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE

Melissa Staples strongly believes the words in this quote and she has a unique set of skills, knowledge and experience to be able to work with individuals, communities and organisations to support them to create the future they can become. With over 30 years of experience in social change, Melissa has been engaged in various community development roles within the State and Local government sectors, community (not for profit) sector as well as a private consultant in her own business.

Thought to be the rarest personality type on the Myers Briggs assessment tool, Melissa is an INFJ and hence amongst only 1% of the population sharing this set of personality traits (famous people with an INFJ personality include Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandala and Mother Theresa). As an INFJ, Melissa has an excellent ability to combine her strong sense of compassion with creativity to resolve challenges. She works honestly and skilfully to offer insight into situations and to ensure that people can get to ‘the heart of the matter’. Her attention to detail, organisational and planning skills ensure that complex projects are managed well, and she works with determination and passion to create a positive impact.  Melissa believes in the potential within every individual and will work beside leaders to bring out the human capability within their organisation. At an individual level, Melissa will work one to one to ensure that each person finds their greatest strengths and potential to be their best in life.

Melissa has spent much of her career working in Community Development within Local Government in Australia. From this vantage point, Melissa is keenly aware of the interplay between the bureaucracy, politics and community.   Her work is innovative, award-winning, creative, inclusive and engaging. Most of all, her work is real, and she is passionate about making a difference for the individuals and communities with whom she works.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work (Hons) from the University of Queensland in Brisbane she has gained qualifications and experience in Project Management, Event Management, Massage and Natural Therapies.

Most recently, Melissa has completed the Advanced Leadership and Consultant Training with the award-winning company, Impact Solutions International (based in Tasmania, Australia).
